What were the period correct high performance exhaust options? I am aware of Supertrapp, Vance and Hines and Kerker. I seem to recall my first 1983 Interceptor back in the day had Supertrapp pipes with some sort of disc system for sound baffling and performance.

Is there a source out there that would still have period correct pipes or am I stuck with luck of the draw on EBay?

I am trying to get stick with Collectors Plates for the Province of BC and they allow period correct aftermarket exhaust.
    Cheers!

Probably gonna have to keep your eyes peeled on eBay. If one does pop up and is in decent shape, be prepared to pay. But they do pop up. Came across a serviceable Sudco for for the VF75oF last year that wasn't ridiculous.

Supertrapp was the disc system. Yoshimura also made systems. Pulled an early Kerker 4-1 race system off of a VF750F parts bike I got last year. It was TRASHED, but was a rare configuration and it sold. Oh, and it was also LOUD.

    Good luck!

Yes, I was a bit concerned about the price of some of these!! I had forgotten about Yoshimura. If I come across something a bit beat up is it possible to restore them? What kind of company does that kind of work? Thanks by the way - this all very helpful.
    Cheers

Depends on what the issues are. Corrosion if not terrible can be blasted and coated. Usually its the header pipes that are pitted and not very visible. Most 4-1 hang kinda low and will have speed bump damage. If not torn thru, I recommend leaving the damage as "pre-clearanced". The first time I bottomed the BRAND NEW Sudco 4-1 on my newly finished VF1000R was heart breaking. And also inevitable. Oh well, it's done now and is less likely to happen again.

Sometimes showing up with a helpless look and a case of beer to the local muffler shop goes a long way.

Actually, I am pretty certain that is for the 500.

The configuration of where the rear mount is matches. Plus the most telling thing is the stock rear aluminum exhaust collars. Smooth like the 500, first thing that caught me eye. The 700/750/1000 collars have little cooling fin features cast in.

Yeah - from what I have been able to find these old exhaust systems seem pretty expensive plus shipping, plus any restoration required. I'll keep an eye on eBay but won't expect too much!
