Ok guys all the shops want to charge an arm and a leg to replace the tires , I have a friend at a tire shop that said if I got the new tires and took them off the bike and brought them to him he would mount and balance them for me but then i will have to put them back on so are there any alighnment issues I should be concerned about with doing it myself , it would just be a waste if I ended up having to take it to the overpriced shop to have them alighn it and all , but if after they are mounted and balanced its downhill from there , that would be nice so guys lend me your experience it will save me 150-200 dollars thanks and happy riding

An automotive tire shop is NOT the same as a motorcycle tire shop.
Totally different mounting and balancing techniques.

Unless your buddy works in a bike shop, I highly doubt that he can replace the tires using his equipment. He could maybe mount the tires on the rims (probably buggering them up in the process), but balancing them, especially the SSSA rear wheel is a job for a specialist.

However, everywhere I've ever dealt with has only charged me about $25 a tire to M & B (even less if you buy the tires from that shop). I removed the wheels/tires from the bike and brought them to the shop. They did the dirty work, and disposed of the worn out tires. I'd take them home and re-install. What is the shop trying to charge you for the M & B??? Any shop trying to charge you for an "alignment" for a VFR is not a shop to go to again.

As far as alignment it concerned, there shouldn't be any issues, the rear wheel is self-aligning (due to the SSSA), and the front wheel shouldn't have any way to be aligned. AFAIK, your front wheel will only be "out of alignment" if something in the forks/tubes/headstock/front frame is bent or otherwise messed up.

As far as alignment goes, you really cant change anything in that area by removing the front wheel, however when you have the front wheel off you should be able to see if your forks are bent or tweaked. If so carefully loosen
all the bolts that hold the forks to the triple clamps keeping an eye on not changing the fork height adjustment, installing the front axle less wheel is a big help here, and then tighten everything up before installing the wheel. On the rear having a single sided swing arm you only have the ability to adjust it forward or backward. So you really cant change the alignment there. Check this site for how to's on tire changing and that and some patience should be all you need.

I've been down this road several times on my '95. Wheels off and on is a piece of cake. Can be done from your tool kit if you are short on hardware.
As mentioned above, no allignment issues.
Get a quality mount and balance with new valves, save money, be happy.

Thanks guys i love this site soo damn helpfull , great to see that there are other viffer lovers to share their knowledge, but n-e-ways i'm glad there arn't any alighnment issues ,well the shops in my area pensacola fl to buy tires from them they are trying to double the charge on just about any brand that i can find online whether it be michelin or whatever so why i am going to get a pair online ,but they want to charge 60 for the rear and 50 for the front for M&B if i bring them in outrageous , thats when my friend said bring them in and he would do them but if they have to be specially done that creates a problem , they really got my balls in a visegrip

All bike shops around me are $20-25 dollars for it done off the bike (if you remove the wheels and bring them in), and an extra 10-15 bucks for it done on the bike I believe.
