    Hi!

Any ABS experts out there? I have the following problem with my VFR 800:

    Model:Honda VFR800 2008 ABS Vtech

Symptom: The ABS indicator does not go off after starting the ride. The problem has persisted (partly) for about a year, on and off. In the last months, the ABS indicator has stayed on at every ride. In two session, the problem code has been determined by counting blinks of the ABS indicator. Battery is relatively new (1 year) and of good quality.

    First debugging session:
    - Problem code: 5
    - Voltages measured on battery:
    ignition on: 12,26V
    idle: 14,86V
    - Measurements on ABS sensors (resistance, air gap):
    Front: 964 kohm, 0.4-1.2 mm
    Rear: 974 kohm, 0.4-1.2 mm

Second debugging sessions (some months later, nothing changed since first session):
    - Problem code 12
    - ABS Control Unit is exchanged with a unit from a 2012 model, claimed functioning. As part of the exchange process, all connectors were cleaned with an electronics cleaning spray.
    - Test drive without resetting the problem code -> Still problem code 12
    - Resetting problem code
    - New test drive -> Still problem code 12
    - Voltages measured on battery:
    ignition off: 12,38V
    ignition on: 11,74V
    idle: 14,80V

According to the chart in the service manual, the only “probably faulty part” shared by codes 5 and 12 are “Wire harness” and “ABS Control Unit”. If the ABS Control Unit is assumed fault free (because two units are tested), this leaves the wire harness as the most probable faulty part, according to the chart.

    Any ideas how to proceed??

try cleaning all the ABS 'lectrickal plug contacts you can find, including any grounds.

My 2005 vfr abs starts flashing after roughly one hour running. After pulling the left side 20amp fuses, it throws a code 14. I read the manual, but is there a simpler way to troubleshoot the problem? 20200120_174508.jpg

I would tend to agree with squirrelman. The majority of problems like this are usually caused by dirty/corroded/loose/connections in the wiring loom.
check for rubbed through/chaffed areas on the wiring harness. A multimeter to check wire continuity, and a wiring diagram will be a must. Since the problem started out as an intermittent and has progressed to always on, makes me think it is a connection or ground. Let us know what you find.

Thanks, I'll start by inspecting the wiring loom using my multimeter
