afternoon all - have a stock 1997 VFR & I am looking to pick up a spare rear wheel (long story)

does anyone know if the 4 bolt 5th/6th Gen rear rims slide straight on to my 3/4th Gen VFR hub setup?

does anyone know if there was any change in the hub/spigot set up between 1994 & 2004 ?

I know the spoke patterns are a little different (this isn't an issue aesthetically for me) - just concerned if there may be a fit issue

    Any comments greatly appreciated

I believe the only wheel from the list below that will work on your 4th gen is the 8 spoke 3rd Gen wheels which are limited in quantity and in high demand which makes them very expensive and hard to obtain. I am positive that 5th and 6th Gen wheel are not compatible.

    4th Gen VFR's (94 - 97) are 5" width
    3rd Gen (90 - 93) are 5.5" width
    5th Gen (1998-2001) are 5.5" width
    6th Gen (2002+) are 5.5" width

The 5th and 6th gen wheels do not have the cut oots like the 3rd and 4th did for the rotor bolts, would need to make a modification for that for them to bolt on.

I wasn't involved in putting the wheel on the bike. The previous owner did it, and unfortunately I've lost contact with him to ask him all the questions I now have after owning it for a while. All I remember him saying about the wheel was that it was off an earlier model VFR.

From what I can tell (and I'm still learning), it does not look like the rim was modified. The holes don't look bored out or anything. I could take some close-up pics but I'd rather not take it off.

no need for that, thanks for replying with pics of your wheel mod though

thanks all for the replies, I have managed to get hold of an identical 5 spoke off a 1994 model which is the same as my 1997 - so all is good, thanks for the help out though

on a side note. I have headr that the BMW rims that come from single sided swing arm beamers will fit also. Never tried but a BMW guy told me this.
