Been a while since I've lurked here, but I ended up trading my 84 VF1kf for a 4th gen, and I love it to death. The owner before the PO made it into a streetfighter...thing, and I want to attempt to bring her back to glory.

I do have an abundance of questions...

I have a Two Brothers exhaust, but I've seen a few VFRs with a lefthand side exhaust. What's the name of it? Or is that a custom thing?

Throttle response under (what im guessing is 5-6k since the guy deleted the dash...) Seems almost completely flat, but afterwards feels like a rocket. Is that normal for this bike to have such a dramatic power surge, or should I start doing carb work?

I'm about due for tires as well, what are some suggestions? I'm an all year all weather rider, and don't own a car, so I need something that can handle rain well, but I won't be replacing every month. I had Avon RoadRiders on the 1kF, and I absolutely loved them. I got well over 14k out of them, and never once was scared of her coming out from under me... I'd like to find something similar for this bike.

Reverse pattern shifters, do they make kits for this bike?

Are there any places that sell performance parts for this motor? I took me forever to find something for my 1kF, but I've really found nothing motor related for this bike specifically. I was interested in building the head, and maybe boring it out after I retire her from being my commuter (Have another project to complete).

Searching google has been such a PITA for this bike... I either find stuff for the 800s, or for the 2nd and 3rd gen. I'm not afraid to do research, just need pointed in the right direction, and love hearing peoples experiences and opinions!

Money to burn ?? VFRs are not cost-effective in terms of over-boring. I can't really appreciate why anyone would try to increase VFR power much, cuz IT'S NO ZX-10, BUT IT'S A DAMN FAST BIKE !! Maybe already too fast for most riders skilz ??

Yes, carbs may need some work if it feels flat below 3500; above, it should start to pull hard and hold-on-tight- dramatically as long as you're not in too high a gear. The nature of the engine is that real acceleration means you can't be lugging it in a high gear at low revs cuz all you'll get is steady but moderate, unimpressive progress.

Honestly, the motivation behind wanting you make this bike more powerful isn't because I NEED more power, moreso that I want to build a bike engine, and adore the V4. I have another bike, (My rebel 450) and that's my cruising bike... I'd like to make something out of the VFR. I have a friend with easy access to engine machining tools, I just need a little direction.

left side exhaust is made by viper. I have one. Its headers and slip on. The muffler used to be huge and then I cut about 75% off of it. For some reason I do not like but it did look better with the factory fairings on.

Erbilabuc, what rear subframe is on your vfr? Mine is currently naked and I love that rear end.

06 gsxr 600. I tried r1 but it looked horrible as it stuck out too far.
here is a close up. I got really lucky because subframe is from 06 gsxr, front fender is from 09 cbr600 (so are the forks) and gas tank is original 95 honda and all of the red is an extremely close match.
