Hi there! Im just in the middle of stripping down my front forks on my VFR750 2010 as I haven't stripped them since I bought the bike a year ago. I noticed the chrome on the forks is quite damaged (probably due to stones flying up from the road when riding) and marked. I never thought this would be a worry but I know damaged chrome can damage seals and the seals aren't cheap to replace every two minutes! So my question for you all is, does anybody know anywhere that can re-chrome my tubes at a decent cost? Not fussed about posting them as long as the job is done and right i will be happy. Its amazing out of all the things I thought I might find whilst stripping, i never imagined the chrome... :blue: its easily done though, i suppose! Many thanks!
I'm interested in that or buying a set of forks for a 91 that are not pitted. There's a fix for pitting that's not bad that is used for fixing other type of hydraulic shafts that uses a special silver solder and as I understand, a lot of hand work.
Hi Billy, found a company that re-chrome for only £139 for the pair http://www.brooksuspension.co.uk/motorcycle-fork-rechroming-service-for-stanchions-both-legs.html but I was also looking into new tubes and they supply them too! Tubes are priced at around £112 a tube, but I would rather re-chrome my originals. Anybody heard of this company before??
Thanks Mate, The company is in UK. I am in the US.. Shipping two ways would make the price possibly double.. Something may come up here. If not there are wrecking yards in dry climes that I will seek out. The plating unless I am way off, is not standard decorative chromium. 25 years of exposure to a marine climate is the cause of the pitting..
