Is there a link on how to safely remove stock grips on the 02+ VFR?
    Thanks in advance!

    It couldn't be simpler.

Step 1 Take off your bar ends

Step 2 Take a utility knife & split the stock grip from end to end

    Step 3 Peel it off

If you want to save them then obviously this will not work. I've actually managed to get a set off a bike with out cutting them but it was a gigantic pain in the butt & definitely not worth it for a set of $10 grips.

    KC-10 FE out...

    removing grips

You don't need to cut them. Stick an icepick or small screwdriver between the grip and the bar and stretch it open a bit. Spray some carb cleaner up in there and twist the grip around. As the carb cleaner dissolves the glue the carb cleaner capillaries into the unglued areas and in 30 seconds they'll be off. It works with rubbing alcohol as well. piece of cake.

If you have an air compressor just blast air in between the grip and the bar.
The grip will expand like a balloon and slide off.
I used this method to remove my original grips and install my Pro grips and it took less than a minute. Until I tried it I couldn't believe how easy it was to do.

Have to try that trick next time. Usually I have mostly just razored off the old and soapy watered on the new.

    MD,

did you just slide them on with soapy water? no glue?

when I bought my bike it had cheap foam grips, which just split on me last week, I put on a set of 717 Progrips last night. Lots of soap to get them to slide on, but I'm worried that they'll slide around/off.

Do what Gears said. Piece of cake. Use superglue on the clip on, smear around and compressed air to reinstall.

No air compressor, but I can go out and get some hairspray... just was worried about the grips moving mid-turn.

But then my racer-ish friend would then chide me for too much weight on the bars... elbows in and down, elbows in and down.... :)

    Thanks.

-I use a bit of dish soap and water, and dont over do it. Its still requires some choise swear words to get everthin to go, but it works. I havent had any problems with it. You have to let it dry out completely. In a pinch I take a hair dryer to get to dry faster. Been doing this for years.

I checked them last night when I got home. They weren't moving at all, very solid grip on the bars....

now I just need to finish putting it back together so I can ride it...

Without glue/adhesive, there is a fairly good chance they will slip in the rain, or when you wash it.

To get them off, I use a screwdriver and pry up the grip a little, and squirt soapy water in there. Pop right off. I don't even use soap to get them back on, the spray adhesive (still wet) lets them slide right on. I usually spray some on the bars, let it get a little tacky, then spray inside the grips and slide them on.

I hadn't thought about rain/washing it... I'll pick up some grip glue soon, then (I don't ride in the rain or wash it often, so it's a controllable risk for a little bit).

Havent run into that in the rain, but I guess you could pry a corner with the pick and squirt some glue in there if you wanted to, maybe use a syringe.

Hair spray and a long thin flat blade gets em off with no trouble if you're wanting to save em. To put em back on I use the method they use for golf clubs which is double sided masking tape and lighter fluid.
