Sorry, if this has been posted before.

What are the opinions on a front chain sprocket having a rubber damper opposed to one not having one? Is there much noticeable difference is the "cushioning" of the chain to sprocket? Anyone have thoughts?

Some people say they can tell the difference.

I've had rubberized and regular, and can't tell any difference, but YMMV.

I believe the rubberized ones are for noise reduction.

It's strictly for noise. Same reason the 86 VFR has rubber pads bolted on the inside of the crankcase covers (which I also remove). I can't tell a difference but I wear earplugs everytime I ride.
