I went for a ride yesterday and just as I pulled in the driveway the bike stalled. I looked at the fuel filter and no gas. So I put some in today and it would only take two gallons so it definitely wasn't out. Anyone know what could cause this? When does the reserve come on?

    well....did your fuel pump die?

    did your fuel filter clog?

did your bike start up with more gas put in?

    is your petcock messed up?

reserve "comes on" when you turn it on ;), did that help?

all these things we must know.....

    It's gravity fed.

    The filter is fairly new.

    Yes.

I don't think so. Could the screen in the petcock bowl cause this?

It was on reserve. I just keep it there all the time.

    Any ideas?

so...what bike are we looking at then? My 87 vfr700 has a fuel pump....

if adding more gas made it start...then...I'm stumped.....

    I'd look at your petcock....

It's an 86 VF500F. I'm thinking it has to either be the petcock or it's not getting gas while going uphill for some reason. It ran out after I climbed a long hill.

Why would you keep it on reserve all the time? Could be any of the above suggestions.
