    Hi all,

I just bought an 02 vfr800. Loving it so far. The guy before me put a new tire on it, but its some Korean made product called Shinko. Anybody ever heard of it? Is it bad? Should I replace it with something known? I can't tell a feel difference since I have only ridden with this tire.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    What model Shinko is it?
    If it's a 003 then it's a soft tyre, 005 is the sports/tourer.
    Front/rear or both??

I've heard good stuff about Shinko's from my friend who has 25+ years of riding experience, 10+ years as a Honda mechanice, and 15+ years of roadracing experience....so I hold his opinion in rather high regard.
All that being said, I've never much been impressed with Korean auto products, and would probably never buy Shinko tires :)
How does it feel to you?

    Mike

Thanks for all the input! I'll stick with them for now. I spoke to the dealer here in TX and he indicated that the tire was pretty ok. Since its so cheap its primary application has been used by the stunt bikers, but even others that have bought it havn't complained.

I was only concerned because, like Miketegra mentioned above, just wasn't familiar with Korean tires, and my concern always is greater when i only have two of em!

I rode through a puddle of water, and then had at least 75feet of dry pavement, but after taking a right hand turn felt my back end slip out from under me a bit, made me think twice about the tires.

I had the Ravens on my old Busa. They are actually really good tires. As many know, the Hayabusa is a heavy bike with tons of torque. This equates to extremely rapid tire wear. I put twice the mileage on the Shinko than I put on the stock Bridgestones with no compromise in lean angle. One primary difference with the Shinko I noticed was the profile. The Ravens are flatter when viewed from the side than say the triangular profile of a Pilot Power for instance. Shinko is the name of the company that bought the molds from Yokohama tire co. before they went out of business.

Long story short, the Shinkos are decent tires. I wouldn't take 'em to the track...but I wouldn't take any street tire to the track.

    YMMV
