    Hey Friends,

I am having a bitch of a time and seem to be going round in circles with my search. Hope someone can help

I have a Joe Rocket Two Piece suit, (actually a couple of them) I love this one because it is perforated and wearable in the extreme heat. Anyways on to the point

The other day while putting this jacket on, I notice the left shoulder armor felt like a sack of foam balls. Opened up the pouch and the molded foam rubber shoulder armor pad had basically broke to many pieces. Guess it has just seen its days.

I have tried a search on line at several sources and seem to just run around in circles. Do any of you know of a source that sells just the armor pads alone? The jacket otherwise is fine. These pads are CE Certified whatever that means. I suspect it is that it meets a certain protection standard.

    Exactly and thanks.

    BTW.

I ended up sending an email to JR Canada with this question just seconds after I posted this thread. By 12:12 hrs, they had gotten back to me and I am being taken care of. Now, THAT IS AFTER SALE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The lack of which with other businesses I have dealt with, I have been vocal about.

    Good on Joe Rocket.

In Joe Rocket's response to me, they said there was new technology coming out and they were going to send me some samples they had. They even suggested I check my elbow pads which were in fact starting to crack. So I told them so. It would really be something if they sent me both! Unless of course they want me to test it out by deliberately hitting the pavement. LOL. Not that I find that all that difficult to do without even trying.

These pads don't owe me anything. Bought the suit in 2006 with the bike. Wore that suit for a long time and many miles inder the sun.

You have me thinking I should look at the armor in my old Fieldsheer suite. I bought them in 07.

I would have never known if the one had not fallen to pieces the other day. Right now, there is substantial duct tape involved in my left shoulder area while I await the new pads.

I don't think it is just time involved here. Surely the time spent under the elements played a bigger part.

Well they arrived today FedEx. FREE. Both the shoulder pads and elbow pads. Like I said, these old pads don't owe me anything. The jacket is several years old. Somewhere around 8 or 9 years I think.

    Randy,

So they warranty your pads for free? Is this a common problem? I have two of the Honda licensed Joe Rocket jackets (think one is the VFR jacket)....one for winter and perforated summer. I bought them in probably 2007 or 2008 as well. I looked at a shoulder pad and it looked okay. Have not checked the other. Did yours just break down and crumble? I will have to pull and chck the others.

First. No . It was not a warranty issue. I just made contact with them looking for a place where I could order replacements. JR Canada came back to me and offered the replacement to my astonishment and gratitude.

I don't believe there is a known problem here. IMHO, nothing would last forever. Just the issue of me owning the jacket since 2006 is not a big deal. The hours and hours of ecposure to the elements is though. Since August of 2006, I have ridden over 192,000 km, a substantial amount of that time wearing that jacket, my perforated leather one, which means tons of sunlight and hot hot hot. I think that is what lead to the break down of the pads.

When I went to put the jacket on one day, the left shoulder felt odd so I opened the pouch and pulled out a dozen or so piece of that shoulder pad. Seems in the creases of the pad, they cracked through from the elements. When I checked the right pad, it was showing the same thing but had yet to break into piece. So, all things considered, I think those pad lasted through a lot.

ANd finally, I learned that JR Canada and JR USA are two separate companies. I was told that the exact same pads may still be available form JR USA as per Arnzinator's post. JR Canada has apparently stopped using those pads several years ago for what ever reason. This would also explain why I cant find the same jacket on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca.

Your summer one being as you are in Texas, should be checked closely for cracking I guess. I think your weather down there is just a tad hotter than us. So I am told.

Okay, so let's see what Joe Rocket does for me. I have two of the VFR jackets that are the same age of yours and the arm/shoulder pads are crumbling so I fired off an email to them tonight. See what they come back with tomorrow. This is the Joe Rocket USA.

I wish you luck. I am thinking JR Canada dealt with me in part since I was enquiring as to where to purchase a replacement and did jot climb all over them trying it insinuate they had an inferior product. I otherwords, rewardong customer loyalty. Maybe JR USA will look at your enquiry in the same manner. Doesn't hurt to try.

No, I did not send an angry email since I have found out that gets you nowhere fast, or at least at first. I merely explained the situation and asked them to advise, kind of leaving it in their hands. I just find it funny for these things to literally just start crumbling even though they are not that old. Sometimes, could mean foam was not manufactured to specs or bad batches. We'll see.

I don't think your pads should be crumbling, no matter haw many time you get caught in the rain. Something is not right. I could be wrong but..... I have several jackets and pants that are even older than that and all the pads are fine and have a lot of mileage on them. I am looking into D3O pads, new energy absorbing technology that is lighter and more comfortable that has been used now for a while and has a great track record so far. More protection is always a good thing.

Did not even think about that. Will have to let the company know. I prefer not to ride in the rain so these pads have never been in the rain, not even once nor have the been exposed to any kind of damaging force etc.
