Do you think it will make any difference if I buy the old part versus the updated part when it comes to the side stand switch. 35700-mbg-305 is $28. 35700-MET-305 is $48-$75. Is the old one likely to die quicker? Is the old one a recalled part? They usually update for a reason right?

If it's an updated part for the same bike than the new one is better for some reason. Companies don't re-design or update parts if there was no problem with the old/original one. Now if you're looking at a switch for a newer model year it may be different simply because of fitment to newer/different parts. Conversly, if the original switch lasted you 11 years and is only 28 bucks, I say grab the old part and call it a day!!
