Bike sat out for a few of months.....bike runs fine, just hate looking at the chain like this knowing it shouldn't look like that.
I'm just looking for some advice on how I can take care of this as soon as possible without spending a lot. Thanks in advance! IMG-20200417-WA0002.jpg IMG-20200417-WA0003.jpg

Wire brush on the faces maybe?

--robotics tech for my day job, mechanic and fabricator for a hobby, oil may run through my veins... but that's only after a horrific injury--

Mostly surface rust from having no lube on the link faces and put away wet. Inspect every roller for similar condition. Chain may have been plain steel with no plating on the link plates, dunno what brand you got. Should be able to wipe most of it off with a rag, chain cleaning brush or nylon brush. Try spray with something like AC-50 and repeat.
Turn rear wheel slowly and try to determine if any two links are frozen or not moving, no kinks in chain. Perhaps loosen rear adjuster it may be easier to find that out. Can also check under the front sprocket cover for any O-rings that may be gone... getting time for a new chain if so.

I did most of what you advised and thank you!
Looks a lot better then what it was, mostly surface rust. I did get caught out in the rain a few weeks back. Didn't think nothing of it...
The chain is OEM and looks to be steel. Inspected the chain and no kinks, so I think I'm good. Thanks again!

Likely steel... forgot to ask what the mileage is, how sprockets look for wear.

Sprockets look sharp to me. 9303 mileage. Just got back from a "grocery store run"

OK, that mileage shouldn't be a problem.... compare sprocket to what a new one should look like and good to go.
