Spark Plug Wires?

Hey,
I just picked up an 84 700 Interceptor, with 9800 miles. I'm doing some tune-up work this weekend and I am having trouble locating spark plug wires. I've tried JC Whitney & Bike Bandit with no luck. Any suggestions?

 

Have you tried the Honda dealer? Or a detailed Google search?

 

I haven't tried the dealer yet, I just assumed that it would be more expensive than an aftermarket supplier.

 

They might be, but the neat thing about Honda is that they HAVE parts for older bikes. Any time that I have considered a used bike that is older than about seven years, Honda has been the only one that carries parts.

It seems to me if you look in the advertising pages of Cycle World or Motorcyclist that there is a bunch of places that claim to have parts. Might be worth a shot.

 

Try Service Honda at Service Honda Home of the CR500AF 500AF 500AFX Junior-X - Honda Motorcycle Parts. They are usually 20-30% less than my local dealers.

 

This might be the ultimate new guy dumb question but here goes:
As far as wires are concerned I've always bought universal sets from summit racing and cut them to size for my cars. Could I do the samething for the bike? universal wires run only about $35 for a V8 set and then I'd have a complete spair set laying around for the future... Is that a dumb idea?

 

if the wires screw into the coils, it's not such a dumb idea.....

 

Unless you see there is something wrong with them...I'd just leave 'em. I've seen more problem with "after" installed ones than originals. Come to think of it...I haven't seen much plug wire problem "period" on bikes.
