    Speedometer stop working.
Before I order speed sensor was looking to test to make sure.

Is their a troubleshooting guy someone could steer me to.

Plastic nut looks to be fine.
I am not getting voltage at sensor connection. pink/green/black wires.

I thought I should get 12 volts between black and green.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Greg

The actual sensor sends out a 5v pulse when it spins, you can test the sensor off of the bike by attaching 12v to the power leads and taking a volt meter to read the output lead. At least this way you can confirm if the sensor is bad.

I did this with my 6 Gen sensor. I used a 12v power supply I had for one of my electronic devices (using some wire and alligator clips) and used a drill attached to the sensor to spin it. If you did not see the 5v pulse when you spin it, it’s bad. However, if you do see the pulse, then check your power lead that goes to the sensor. Being that you indicated there was no voltage there, you may go that path first.

If you don’t have a Honda Service Manual, check over at www.vfrdiscussion.com in their downloads section, there might be a Service manual there.

    Thanks for that.
    I will check tomorrow.
I was able to track down FSM
My manual didn't have test procedure.

I thought that I should get 12V at sensor connection though.

When going through wires today I found a blown fuse on my VFRness. Confused on this as bike runs fine and battery keeps at 12.7 +- cold and charging system about 14.3v at 5K. Everything else is working.

    Ran test
On speed sensor - Hooked black line (power) to 12v battery Posi
Hooked Green (ground) to 12v battery ground
Multimeter red to speed sensor pink
Multimeter black to 12v battery ground

Spun speed sensor by hand and low speed with drill. I get fluctuation in current but at very low voltage, up to .2 volts .

I will have to say, not 100% sure about the model year you have but definitely the 6 Gen is supposed to send a 5v pulse and that would indicate yours has an issue, if they are indeed operate the same. I cannot imagine yours being any different, but then again, who knows what Honda does. Is there anyone near you with the same bike that you could swap with to double check?

    Update

    More confused now

    Previously

Their was 12V at connection (speed sensor to harness) when back probed.

Pink wire has continually at 10pin behind cluster

    12V at instrument cluster

With sensor hooked up to battery I was getting low voltage at pink wire, not sure amount as it was over winter but I think .03-.04. Manual says should be a 5 volt signal.

Replaced sensor with used one from ebay.

Same result no speedo working after install

Maybe bad sensor as well? Retested with same results as original sensor.

Checked amperage coming from sensor and was in spec

Purchased speed sensor nut to sprocket.

Put back in original sensor. Speedo worked. Drove about 10 miles stopped for gas and no more speedo? What the hell is going on?

Does anyone know what the resistance of the sensor should be?

The wiring all looks good up to cluster and I did continually on all wires (10 pin to sensor connection)

Also I had blown fuse on this circuit (fixed now) and can verify other loads/switches are working.

    Any advice/help would be great.

    Thanks
