    Hello
    Looking for advice.
    97 VFR 45K US
No start (no turn over) then start after several tries. This period before start is quickly getting longer
If i jump the relay it turns over.
Wire harness (female/motor side) shows disintegration from heat (red wire)
Relay possible fine. I'll test for resistance with the relay. Haven't done yet.

Batt is new shows 12.8 cold

In the picture is the probable problem i hope.

I am thinking I should replace the female/motor side connection. Or bypass the connector (red wire).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Best
    Greg

Yep! As Tink said. Wiremybike.com and get the VFRness plus check and repair all wires and connections. Do "The Drill"!

    Thanks!
ordered the VFRness as it comes with the relay wiring.
Haven't had problems with charging system after replacing RR 35k ago but at 17 years this seems to be a wise preventive purchase.

VfRness is installed with new wiring and connector to solenoid.
Seems Solenoid is bad, wanted to get advice or test procedure to make sure.

    Batt is 12.8 cold
    Connections are clean

When I try to start I get clicking from solenoid but when cold I get a no start for several attempts then it starts. If I jumped the connections on solenoid it will start so i'm eliminating the starter as a fault.
Would this be a common issue on a bad solenoid or fading one.
I haven't tested the solenoid yet as since it will start I wouldn't be for sure of the test.
And if solenoid needs replacement are the ebay $15 ones any good?

    Thanks
    Greg

Most of the ebay ones will work but they're awkward to fit cuz the high-current terminals are reversed compared with the original. Be sure your battery terminals are clean and tight and that chassis ground is too.
