So like an idiot, I stripped the threads of the oil drain bolt. Seeing as the pan is aluminum and the bolt was steel, well I striped the pan. I have a temp fix in right now, but it still leaks a small amount of oil. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a place to get a new pan for my 95 VFR for a reasonible price.

you could drill and tap it for a larger bolt size, or install a heli-coil in it. No real need to throw it out and you can do either with it on the bike just make sure you flush the chips well.

    ^^^ What dale said! ^^^

    Drill and oversize tap.
    HeliCoil.
    Time-Sert.

You don't need a new pan, just a new thread.

Already tried a self taping bolt that was a single oversize, with a 19mm head. Even with teflon tape and a crush washer, it still leaks a little oil. Trust me it is one hell of a lot better now then it was at first, but even a little oil leak worries me. Besides the oil hits teh bottom plastic then runs up the outside of it due to the wind, this looks awful.

if you can't find one from a junkyard or ebay, try servicehonda.com and use their online schematic thing to get the part number and see how much they'll set you back. there is also bikebandit.com but it seems like servicehonda usually is a little cheaper. there is also an online junkyard search that'll check lots of motorcycle graveyards and they can shoot you quotes. I've used it for finding used parts with fair success.

You can easily repair the threads to original size. Go to your neighborhood NAPA store and get a HeliCoil thread repair kit. The kit will include the proper size drill bit and tap as well as some threaded inserts and the installation tool.

Coating both the drill bit and the tap with heavy grease will capture nearly all of the chips as they are generated, and a flush of the crankcase with the oil you're going to drain to do the repair will take care of any strays.

Using a torque wrench when tightening the drain plug will eliminate the problem in the future.

Hondaparts-direct.com has one for 112 USD.
I would go the Time-sert route. Cost around 25 and you dont have to remove the pan. Also, you aren't likely to strip it again with the Time-sert.

No, no, no... a "self tapping" bolt is not the same as drilling and tapping it properly, and/or doing a heli-coil or similar insert. Do it right and it will work. No need to junk the pan *or* have a leaking bolt.
