I bought an 87 VFR 700 w/ 17K miles a couple weeks ago. Clean and nice. then a small oil leak - a drop overnight - started. After several short (20-30 mile) trips, the leak got worse. I had oil droplets on my left shoe. And several drops on the garage floor after a ride. I 'chased' the leak to somewhere behind the water pump and sproket guard. I pulled the clutch slave cylinder and sproket guard and saw something very unusual: What appeared to be 'liquid steel' puttied and painted on the upper crank case.
I found the leak alright! The 'putty' is loose and seeping (not blowing) crank case oil at a significant rate. I'm not brave enough to pry it off - afraid of what I'll find. Any suggestions before I take it to a shop?
