Hey I recently sold my harley sportster and am currently looking at a 1997 VFR 800. My dad had a 92 VFR 750 and loved it. My question was, this bike has 35000 miles on it. Yes, 35 THOUSAND. Is that too many for this bike? How much longer do you expect the engine to last? The owner has been using it for a daily commuter bike. I don't want to buy the bike and have it shoot craps. What's it worth? The condition is excellent. I really need some help, and this is my first post.

    Welcome aboard.
35k is not that many for a VFR. Many members here have well over that. I put 22k on my bike in the last 2 years alone.
Make sure the plastics are in good shape and ask about the regulator/rectifier(Honda's achiles heel).
See if you can get some pics and post them here. We'll let you know what we think.

VFR engines are solid and if maintained properly and not abused they should easily last more than 75k miles. I've even known a few who put more than 100k on theirs. How many GSXR's have you seen on the road with more than 100k??

True dat...28000 miles on mine and nothing other than tires and brakes.
Every time I ride something newer, I fall in love again - 5th gens are the shizzle, mo-dizzle (did I type that right? Good God I'm so freckly) .

Is it a '97 (carb'd) or a '98 (fuel injected)? Doesn't matter much either way, 63K on my '99 and it still runs like new. They'll go 150K easily if taken care of.

35k is nothing for the VFR's. Most consider the bike finally broke in around that time. I've got 23k on mine and counting. Many have well over 60k around here on their bikes and others have over 100k. Treat her well and she will last forever. The engines are bullet proof and you can pretty much expect it to run forever.

Sounds like 35000 isn't too bad. Here is the bike and the ad that I'm looking at. Has a few pictures for you guys to check out. You think its a good price? Need some advice. I"ll check on if its carb'd or FI. Is fuel injected better?

It's definately a 98 - fuel injection. Looks like the seller has kept it up well. (Wish my 99 had come with the seat cowl) $3500 seems a bit high, maybe closer to 3? Otherwise looks good!

It's not a terrible deal but if you keep looking I'm sure you can find another bike with lower mileage and more aftermarket goodies for the same price.

Did he install a speedo healer on it? If he went up 2 on the rear sprocket, with no speedo healer, then the mileage will be off. Actually, I think it would be less than 35k miles.
