    Hello everyone,

I have been putting my 1986 vfr750f back together, and I have been thinking about buying a newer vfr, I don't put a ton of miles on my older vfr.
I would like everyone's opinion on getting a newer vfr. What years are the best ? How new ? I didn't want to be hooked into payments since i am out of work and going back in for another surgery or I would just buy a 2016, I guess a vfr800 ?
Thank you for your input. Tim (speed)

All I know is that gear driven cams ended sometime during the 5th gen years. '98 was the last year maybe? Someone confirm or correct. Owning a 2nd gen myself, the gear driven cams are a big deal to me. I wouldn't have a VFR that didn't have them. Not bashing, just my $.02.

2001 was the last year for gear driven cams.

While they are cool, gear driven cams aren't that big of a deal. I'd rather have my VTEC and the 6th gen styling / accessory availability.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

I doubt it matters much to most people, and I'm sure the stuff you listed is more than compensatory. I just can't help but smile a mile wide every time I hear my bike start whining and growling at the same time.

The whine would drive me crazy after the first 100 miles ... I go 500-600 miles a day when I travel (which I do a lot).

You would dare blaspheme in this, the most holy of cyberspaces?! Lol.

To each their own. I personally think the newest rendition of Interceptor is an AWESOME looking bike, but I'd miss the noise.

My grandpa rode an Aspencade for what seemed like forever when I was a kid. Burgundy with gnarly old man pinstriping and disgusting velvet-esque seats and armrests. Bet I logged 10,000 miles on the back of it. He was even the President of GWRRA Chapter E. They're comfy and strong, if nothing else my gramps swore by 'em. Harleys have their place too. Mostly the garage, but whatever. Ha!

Couldn't agree more. My two most frequent riding buddies straddle HDs (my dad and little brother.) Occasionally I go out on my brother's Sportster and tool around. Sometimes, I even have fun on it.

FYI, there is no 2016 VFR. You should really look into a leftover new 2014. Plenty out there for insanely low prices. I paid $13k 2 years ago. Now they can be found for as low as $8k....new! Definitely worth it compared to a used 6th gen for $5k with no warranty.

If it were me replacing my steed, it would be the 8th gen for sure. That bike is so sweet, my teeth rot as we speak. That aside, I think you need to look at which generation remained in production the longest. I think it is safe to say, they remained in production because of sales demand. There was a sales demand because there was confidence in the bike. This brings us to the 6th gen that ran from 2002 to 2009. That is 8 years in production. They may have been available for a year or two elsewhere but here in North America, it was just those years. None of the other gens came even close.

Simple math here. and depends on your patience too. The thing with the new 8th gen is it's cut and dry ready to roll and now can be had for a fairly decent price, but at a price only you can decide if it's worth it or not. The 5th gen IMO 98-99 is, was the best of the lot, unless you're like me and appreciate the 4th gen for what it offered. but back to a newer trend the 5th gen holds it own very well today and even has an around better to do. but in that is finding one, then have it that works for you. Rest assured you'll only spend a 1/4 compered to the 8th gen. the 5th is the 8th biggest rival Then, when it come to VFRs, it's more than just two wheels, why else are you riding one? Other wise you'd be on something else right. Had I not tripped over this 5th gen I have now, I'd be either on a Aprilia Tuono or the new VFR, but the smart money won out, and luck prevailed.
