So on my way back to Hays tonight, I was lucky enough to hit a deer. The thing sprinted out of the ditch and clipped my right side, took out my right front turn signal and slammed my knee. I kept the bike up and stopped within a quarter mile, checked to make sure everything was ok, and when I looked back, the stupid doe just looked at me and walked off. Stupid deer...

I'll have pictures of the minor damage tomorrow.

Glad you are all right, Zach. Great job staying up. They are a real menace. I have not seen many around here lately, but I know they are out there. What time of day did it happen?

Sorry to hear that but glad it wasn't as bad as it could've been. Good job keepin' it on 2 wheels. Pour yourself a stiff one for that.

It happened just as it was starting to get dark, around 7:30 or so. My knee took most of the blow, so it's a bit sore today. The good news is that a quick switch of a front turn signal should be all that I have to do to get the bike back to the way it was.

Living in Kansas, you should know you were riding at the witching hour in the witching month for deer. They are in rut right now looking for deer poontang, and they are most active at sundown. I avoid riding in the evening at all costs.

Good job on keeping it upright. Keep your eyes open and slow down if you have to ride anywhere near sundown.

The bucks are a particular menace during rut. They concentrate 100% on getting some doe poontang and block everything else out. (Kind of like when I was in High School.)

Glad you're ok.... If the deer had to pay for poontang like us humans, maybe they'd slow down. (We all pay in different ways, maybe not directly)

You know drewl, I've lived here my entire life and never had a single encounter with a deer. Guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Lesson learned on this one.

I found 2 deer with my cars when I lived there. One was going away from the road on Hwy 24 in Clay County. He turned around just to smash up my 86 Civic wagon. The other one was on a back road and jumped right out of the wheat stubble(same color-never saw it coming). That one did 1500 hundred bucks damage to my 93 Accord.
My father in law had one jump on his hood as he was driving home one night. Left a nice hoof shaped dent in his hood.
Just so ya know, those deer whistles are crap, useless waste of money.

Those turtles can come out of no where during rutting season.

    The damage

As you can see, the turn signal took most of it. Theres a crack in the upper fairing behind the signal, as I tried to point out in the picture.

The scuff on my boot has to be from a hoof. I don't even want to think about what could have happened if I was wearing running shoes...

Sorry if the pictures aren't the best, the phone was all I had.

Once while riding just outside Nairobi, a large bull elephant in rut decided he was in love with my VFR. Watch out for harleydood chicks too.
