After doing some deep carb work I noticed my idle was quite a bit higher than usual, upon trying to adjust it I found my return doesn't have enough tension to pull it down to the desired point without pushing forward on the throttle, so after staring real hard at the throttle return cable I cannot fathom how to tighten it. The throttle pull appears to have two nuts for locking it in place, but not the return, although the manual doesn't show the return having two as is.

    Am I missing something here?

the adjustment is down on the clip on the carbs that holds both cables, isnt it ? of course, if you screwedup the carb synch or lost a spring, one throttle butterfly might be too far open.

maybe your neighbor, randy, could help.

Yeah, on the clip there. There doesn't appear to be a way to lock the return cable in a tightened position. I've got it roughly in the position I'd like it in in the attached picture, but when I screw it back in, it just pushes back down as there's no top nut.

    A couple things...

Make sure the adjustment up near the throttle housing on the cable is allowing to you to get the proper adjustment down on the carbs. The one with one nut gets tightened completely and the one with two nuts is the one you adjust so you have some free play. And then the one on the cable up near the housing gives you the ability to fine tune and adjust as cables stretch a bit with time.

Thanks for advice there, it helped a little before I realized what my real problem was.

Turns out I was a little stupid and it wasn't my throttle that had any problems at all. One of my springs flew out while I was redoing my carbs and I backed up the adjustment screw all the way to stick it back in. It didn't occur to me until now that I just took my carbs out of sync with that.

So, now I'm repurposing this thread to ask what a good starting point for a bench sync would be? I've got vacuum gauges on the way, but I'd like to have it in decent shape before then. Also, what's a good increment to adjust the screws in? Quarter turns or..?

i like to adjust all throttle plates to just begin to uncover the first progression hole. use the idle adj screw to go back and forth to refine the setting. important to snap the throttle a couple times after moving any synch screw so linkages and throttle plates settle into position.

the sequence of screw adjustments is important.

Thanks, I'll give this a go in the morning. On a side note, I didn't even realize you had suggested I may have taken them out sync in the first place lol. Would have saved me some time if I'd paid attention.

Worked beautifully, bike rides like it did before I hacked it up.
    Thanks again.
