Good afternoon everyone, I was just wondering if you could help me understand what do I need to be able to install a top box off of this?

Also, I'm assuming a passenger back rest would not be possible to have it at the same as a top box?

    Thank you

Hi Jay9287 and welcome to the Madhouse:Welcome:

When you get time please add a post in the "introductions" part of the forum and tell us a bit about your VFR and your riding history.

You may also want to update your forum profile to include an approximate location (city/state) so it appears automatically beside your posts and if you need help with an issue you may find someone living nearby may offer to swing by and provide advice of even pick up a wrench - especially if you have a well stocked beer fridge.:drink:

As for fitting a top box to a 6th Gen - you basically remove those pillion grab handles and in their place fit a Honda top box mount and Honda top box plate which will take either the small or large (45litre) OEM top box. By now you will struggle to find any dealer with these parts so the likes of craigslist and TheBay are where you may find some - although it is also worth a wanted post in the small adds section on here - ideally stating the precise year VFR and colour you are looking for.

    Good luck

Forgot to mention that if you fit an OEM top box, the rear carrier rack extends sufficiently far back so the top box will act as a very comfortable back rest for any pillion. Indeed most OEM top boxes come with an integral padded back rest for the pillion to sit back against, and the rear carrier rack doubles up as both a rack to support the top box and provides strong grab rails for the pillion to hold onto.

I have posted a very out of date pdf copy of the Honda Motorbike accessories brochure on my site which can be downloaded here
    http://www.lifford-cooke.com/motorbiking/documents/Accessory_Broch_Final_2008_compressed.pdf

If you scroll way down to page 14 you will find the VFR section with the top box and rear carrier part numbers all listed and if nothing else hopefully the photos which will hopefully give you a better insight into how it all goes together.

My Gen5 has a Givi setup. You can see that the top box has a padded backrest for a passenger, though that's where I keep my extra tools.

See if this helps. This is the standard Givi setup I had on my 6th gen. Very successful.
I chose to retain the passenger grab handles even though the Givi instructions called for them to be removed. I recall having to do some very minor grinding or sanding.
