Turn signal and brake light help

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the board. I just bought a 1984 Interceptor 750. It's a little rough but I've got most of the bugs worked out. I'm having a problem with the turn signals on it. When I first bought it I put a new battery in it. The turn signals worked fine. Then suddenly stopped working. I'm also having a problem with the brake light coming on when I hit the front brake. It just won't come on. Could these two problems be related? What would cause something like this? Is there one module that controls both? Any help is much appreciated.
