The upper cowl and center meter panel are off. Is there anything that needs doing while this area is exposed? I will not be taking these back off unless absolutely required.

    Thanks

Makes life easier to replace the steering stem bearings with All Balls roller bearings. Cost you around $30

Do they need replacing due to failure or is this just a nice upgrade? The bike has around 6K miles.

stock headstock bearings should last you many many more miles. The roller bearings have an even longer lifespan and a better feel for the road. Besides being cheap.

You may notice a difference when crossing railroad tracks and such. Plastics don't have to be off to change headstock bearings but it would be easier without the stuff in the way.

Might also be a good time to ship your gauge cluster off to Bluegauges.com and have your leds changed to a different color. They can do blue, red, green...whatever you want. Should take less than a month to get them back. (they're in NY). I had my lcd's changed to blue, and they look pretty good.
