Trying to decide between a USED 2007 25th anniversary edition and a "NEW" 2014. The 2007 has 17K miles on it and is $6,000, while the 2014 is about $8,000 out the door.

Any thoughts or experiences VFR owners would like to share? A few insights about what I'm trying to find ...

    1. The bike will be my daily and the only bike I own.
    2. Almost all of my riding is 30-minute commute to work and just around town.
    3. Almost all of my riding is 1-up.
    4. Top speed doesn’t interest me nearly as much as acceleration.
    5. I generally like a slightly aggressive or upright position; not a big fan of really aggressive positions. The 2007 that's available has HeliBars that have adjusted to "1.5 inches up and 1.5 inches toward the rider." It feels good to me.
    6. I'm not super tolerant of high-maintenance bikes.
    7. I'd prefer the best gas mileage I can get, obviously.

    Thanks for your opinions!

Not asking a lot are you.

9 year old bike with 17k or 2 yr old ? With zero.
    It's a vfr not a cbr.

What do you class as high maintainance? 8000 miles between services.

I personally would go for the new bike.

Mind you if looking for gas mileage Look at the nc 700. High mpg

Unless your heart is set on the '07 Anniversary edition, I would also recommend the new 2014.

I'd go with the new bike & I'm bias towards the 25th VFR. Why? The new bike has upgraded suspension, brakes, lower weight, the list goes on. Either bike will give you 200 miles per tank. I think the new bike is worth the $2k over the 07.

mm, no brainier here 014. You would need to ride them back to back to understand why I said that. besides the 014 is way better looking IMO, especially in white, then the wheels. whew!!

No question...go for the 2014. I traded my 2007 (Red, not the 25th) for my 2014 and have no regrets. 2014 gets surprisingly better mileage...I went from 40mpg to 48mpg with aggressive canyon riding.

Is the '14 the base model or the deluxe? If deluxe I'd say it's a no brainer - get the '14. If it's the base model I'd get the '07 if it has ABS. If neither bike has ABS I'd wait and look for one that does.

Forgot to mention the 2007 has some other mods: Sargent seat, Nitron shock, the fork was redone with emulators and valving, HeliBars that raise the bars about 1.5 inches and bring them back about as far, taller smoked screen.

The 2014 is NOT the deluxe.

Thanks for all of your feedback. It's appreciated.

those are nice up grades but if these are absolutely your only choices, then I'd go new at 8000 OTD. I may be biased since I'm in the process of looking for an ABS touring bike but I'd tend to agree with Gatorgreg, wait for an ABS bike. Not much experience with ABS on 2 wheels but seems like a nice safety feature to have.

No brainer. 2014. Better rpm range, mileage, and essentially brand new regardless of model year.

I thought the 2007 was lighter than the 2014 (470-ish vs. 520-ish), from what specs I've seen.

The 8th gen is lighter than the 2007 (6th gen). Read just about any major motorcycle mag review of the 8th gen when it came out and they all pretty much talk about it - but it's not that huge a difference really.

8th gen is officially lighter than the 6th gen...by about 22 lbs, I believe.

Nope ... That's a dry number vs. a wet number, probably not even including the battery. Wet, meaning fuel, oil, water, and all run right around the 535lb mark.

IMO go with what your gut says. The newer bikes will always have an advantage but by reading your comments it sounds as though the 07 is speaking to you. I have a feeling you'll love either one!

Honda's website specs have 15 VFR @ 529 pounds (Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and a full tank of fuel-ready to ride). Doesn't specify standard or deluxe. Sportrider's website list the 14 VFR Deluxe @ 556 wet & 522 dry. Has the 02 VFR @ 534 wet & 508 dry. Also list the 05 & 06 VFR witch differ by a couple of pounds @ 585-587 wet & 550-552 dry. Sportrider doesn't specify if any of the Gen 6 specs are ABS or not. I'd suspect the the 02 was a non abs & the 05-06 was an abs considering the difference in weight.

Having had other gens. and now an 8th gen., regardless of what Honda says, the 8th gen. does not feel lighter when handling, moving or riding. If it is lighter, it doesn't seem to translate to anything have to do with how it "feels" when riding. FWIW
