So, I have a line on a low mileage '85 VF1000F (~22,000 km / 13,670 miles) ... I have yet to see the photos of the bike, but it was running before put into storage.

I don't know how long it's been in storage, sounds like a few years due to back issues.

Wondering if it can it be converted to a "R", and if so, is it worth it or better to keep it as an "F"? (aesthetically speaking of course since I believe the R used gear driven cams vs. chain)

Or do you think this would be an abomination / sacrilege to do this?

I'm getting photos in the next day or so. :)

I should note ... I suppose being an '85 it could be VF1000F2, in which case I'd likely leave it alone since it would be fully faired.

    Thoughts?

I've requested photos and the serial # off the frame so I can determine the model of the bike. In 1985 I believe there were 2-3 variants of the "F".

I'll post as soon as I get my grubby little hands on them.

If I purchase it, I will likely have to store this bike a friends place until spring so the wife doesn't find out about it right away - or tell her it belongs to a friend and then tell her I bought it from him in the spring (or he gave it to me for a favour lol).

Just tell her it is an important piece of Honda's history and it may well be worth some money in years to come

LOL ... she actually understands 'investments' and 'appreciation'.

I just need to gather enough evidence to show her it and she'll give the nod. I just don't want to miss out on this bike if it's the steal that I think it is, I need to hop on it immediately, I'll need the time to put it together the 'sell'. :)

Also, she wants new furniture - and also admitted to me the other day that she was really bothered by the accident despite hiding it, but also knows I'll never stop riding. :)

I think I may have just jizzed in my pants ....

I have the serial # ... it's a VFR1000FF manufactured 10/84. Been stored in a garage for it's life, and parked for the past couple of years. It's currently in a heated space.

Think $800 CAD is a deal?

    Fuxat mean?

Nice catch if you get it. If I were to buy a second bike, it would likely be some adventure tour type of a ride. But the insurance every year would kill me for two bikes.

My wife and I have separate bank accounts so I buy whatever I want, when I want, so long as I have the money. Been pretty much like that since we married back in '86. That's why I am bone broke and she is rich.
Nice of you to go out an buy a bike for me to ride when I come out in the early summer for my visit.

BTW. We will be in the area on the July long weekend and a week or two either side of that. The goosquitoes have settled down a little by that time haven't they?

Everyone thinks it was some cosmic, catastrophic event that killed off the dinosaurs here on earth. Truth of the matter is, they were all sucked dry of all their blood by Manifuckingtoba mosquitoes.

Yah, I was looking for a dual sport to be honest but I stumbled on this - this is hard one to pass I think with them becoming more rare, especially in this condition at that price.

Thanks. I just need to convince the wife somehow ... I started brooch the subject with her, didn't go so well, she didn't say no either though. She's going to need some time to warm up to it. LOL!

    It's new.
Just buy it now and apologise for it later.
That would be $4000 bike here.

Yup. I'm going to do it ... the guy agreed to store the bike for the winter in the heated space that it's currently in for the winter if need be.

I just posted a few of my personal items for sale as well to fund it. The wife can't complain about me selling stuff that belongs to me in order to pay for it ... in the meantime, I'm just going to buy the damn bike so long as it turns over. :)

Shit, I don't even want that bike and I'd pay 800 for it.

You will love working on the old beast, simple and straight forward. I replaced most of the rubber parts on my 83 due to age. Partzilla had all the OEM rubber parts at a reasonable price. Ozone makes the rubber hard & brittle, don't fix if it ain't broke, but know you have a source.

Good to know. The intake boots were like that on the '82 Magna V45 I restored years ago - I couldn't find a source for them either (not one that was reasonable anyways).

The part that makes reasonable is that they Honda OEM parts and they are still available! Not cheap, but Partzilla's prices are fair.

Sweet. I'm looking forward to getting this deal done and the bike in my garage ... I'll be slapping a vintage / collectors plate on it.
