The bars on this thing are buzzy, and I was thinkin' about adding some L-P bar end weights. I still have the OEM grips, and I think from just feeling it that the bars are solid at the end....is that right? So...I'd have to drill a small hole in the end (if the bar end weights have a threaded bolt) or maybe drill it out much larger if the bar end weights have an expandable rubber plug...that sound right to you guys? Anyone done this?

Oh...now I'm guessing that a small hole for the threaded rod ain't gonna do it on 2nd thought....it would have to have one of those welded nuts inside the bars for that to hold...and I'm guessing this thing is too old to have that nut, correct?

I cut my bars down so that I could use late-model grips. In the process I cut out the stock weights and added the LP bar ends. I apologize for the carbon-look, I know that is soooo squidly but all my dealership had that day was these and blue, so it was the lesser of two evils. Enjoy.

You cut the bars DOWN...as in shortened them, so you could use SHORTER grips? I have been thinking that the OEM grips are too short as it is for me.

Cut out the stock weights? Huuh? Does this bike HAVE weights on the bar? Sure doesn't feel like it. Are they internal to the bar or something?

Do the L-P bar weights work as far as you can tell? I'm looking for something to take the buzz out of the bars. Any idea how/if I could keep the bars as they are stock, and add some L-P bar weights? How would someone go about doing that...drill out the OEM bars somehow?

To help you really need the big heavy ones with the rubber mount that slides in the bar. Here's one from my GS500F twin it vibs much worse without them.

And did you install them in a handlebar that didn't previously have bar end weights? If so, love to know how. I'm still trying to figure out how to do this on my VF500! Anyone done this mod?

Yes, exactly. The stock grips are way long compared to..... well.... newer bikes I suppose. There are weights in the stock VF500F bars, you just can't see them because the end of the bar is filled in. My bars are perfectly fine with the bar ends shown.

I guess I need to ask the question: why are your bars buzzing? The V4's are some of the smoothest engines around. I would never expect a VF500F to have trouble with that.

I forgot to mention that the aftermarket bar end weights that I'm using are actually lighter than the stock internal weight. The 500 has a decent amount of weight in there already.

wgregt - I would suggest that you try to determine the source of the vibration. Your bike should not be doing that!

well, I suppose it could be attributed somewhat to the 14 year old tires that are on it right now. Plenty of tread let, just old. I guess I'll put them on and see...
