ok so i have a vf500 that I have been trying to get back on the road. The bike sat for 2 years because it was dumped by a friend of mine and does run but needs carb work. My other problem is i cant get the bike out of gear. It had several damaged parts: Bent clutch rod, damaged slave cylinder, cracked external shift cover, bent gearshift spindle and guide plate. All these items have been repaired and repaired correctly. So i still have a few questions to ask before i pull the motor out because my next move is to repair the internal shifter and shift forks (luckily I have all the parts on hand).

-Should the shift drum be able to turn with clutch engaged?

-The master and slave cylinder still have slight leaks but release the clutch enough where the motor will start, does clutch have to release 100% to be able to kick out of gear? im thinking it should be able to pop out by rocking the bike if it worked properly.

-I quickly inspected the clutch plates, discs, main plate and springs to see if anything was visibly damaged but all seemed ok. Should i replace on the safe side or do you think im on the right track by replacing internal shifter.

Feel like im forgetting somthing but i think you catch my drift. All input is appreciated thanks.
