    Hi all,

first post on here but been checking it out on occasion, very informative.

I have a friend with a VF500FT Ascot, 1983 model, that is bogging down when applying the gas over 3k rpms.

I have the carburetor out and have thoroughly cleaned it with the appropriate cleaning tool, (the one with the non scratch wires for cleaning the jets/passageways), then carb cleaned every passageway and chased it through with compressed air.

I have noted the main jets as Front cylinder 112 and rear cylinder 120.
I realize this is to help cool the rear cylinder as it does not get as much wind to it.

Anyway, my main question here is what should the float height level be?

I have sourced all VF500 manuals I can find, including ones posted on this site. All I can find are the 1984 onwards models and mainly the v4's.

Does any one have access to the float specs for the 1983 VF500FT Ascot?

    Thanks in advance.

What's it set at now ?? :help: :biggrin1:

That would be a good starting point if u don't have specs. Maybe same as the VF500 setting.

For the bogging down, maybe a diaphram pinched under the cover ?? Could be allot things............:eek-new:

good question, I will check out the setting as is at the moment.

the diaphrams look ok and no sign of them being pinched.
After setting the floats and synching the carbs, I will be looking at other possible causes...

please dont be afraid to throw some out there and I'll try them.

Bad synch won't be responsible for bogging down. The jet difference you mentioned F/R is more than usual.

I'd suggest removing air filter and watching the slides responding to throttle inputs, fluttering around idle and seeing that they both rise equally as the throttle is opened.
