vf700f my first motorcycle, newbie to the forum too!

first off new to this forum, like it so far!

i came across this one for a good deal, ive been wanting to get into motorcycles for a while now, so this is my first one.

its pretty rough, dont really mind yet. most of the fairings and things are cracked or broke zip tied etc. only things i know about it is that it supposedly a good runner and has low mileage 18000 or something idk and no problems other than below. seems to have nice tires. it went down the road 55-70 mph just fine so i think its synced up fine something else is up with it?

it has some issues. i want to fix everything before i even ride the thing.
first- it wont idle much at all, hard starting. the PO had to drop a lil gas into the air filter to get it to run long even to warm up and my friend rode it 20 miles or so to my house for me. it would die at stop signs, but seems to start up more easily after being warmed up. he has an 07 cbr919 and said this one rode pretty good he seemed to like it.
second- i think i got this but any tips appreciated. the petcock leaks gas bad, i pulled it off today and from pics i seen of the gasket on this forum it looks like somebody just put three individual o rings in there and one has been modified since theyre so close together. i think this is the cause? i bought some new orings and ill see what i can do i guess. the leak has curdled some paint.
those are my main worries other than making sure all the preventative maintenance is up to date i found the shop manual in the sticky thread.
also i need handlegrips mine are missing, so if you know of a place to get some new aftermarket ones that will work correctly let me know? i dont really want to put much money into it unless it might affect my safety.

i might even repaint this thing (or at least most of it) before i ride it, it looks like i have a more unique paint scheme? havent seen one like it yet.

but because of my inexperience with these(and all) bikes im welcome to any advice/thoughts/opinions to be offered!

Nothing that 2-3K won't take care of.

 

clean the carbs.... first off, paint scheme? seems to be an aftermarket job...
