    vf750f top speed solved

Just purchased bike 700km ago, from 400km away,Honda serviced bike before I purchased it. As you can see from my previous post was not happy with top speed. This morning checked valve clearance, plugs, plug wires, all wiring, fuel pump,check-check-check every thing looks good, put bike back together head out to highway. HOLY CRAP open throttle almost tears me off bike, start shifting gears look at speedo doing 100mph in 4th,shift into 5th 10500rpm 120 mph repeat couple more times same results. Did not adjust anything but very obvious something had not been put together right after last tuneup. Problem is how do I get stupid grin off my face:biggrin:,riding it lovin it. I was 25 when bike was built, riding it makes me feel 16 again.

But what is the top speed?

    Hey, Darcy,

What do you mean about shifting: Do you mean that when you shifted into 5th, that you had hit the red line in 4th and you were going 120 mph?; or do you mean you hit 100 in 4th and then shifted into fifth and accelerated up to 120mph where you backed off? What gear are you in when you hit 120? Are you at the red line in 4th? Or are you in 5th and what is your engine RPM when you hit 120? I always thought that the Vf 750f was capable of 140-150 if fully wrung out? Its an old bike, I would not blame you if you did not want to go there. But I'm curious, since you are Canadian. I did not think that Canada was a place where the tariff de-tuned 700 cc bikes were sold? Did Canada go along with the tariff as a favor to the US and Harley Davidson? Or is it basiscally impossible to keep the bikes from being run across the border. So Americans would go to Canada to buy the 750 without a tariff markup and the Canadians came to the States to pick up 700's cheap? What happened?

    vf 750speed

the bike was still pulling strong at 120 mph(200kmh)the bike will bury the tach needle, just did not go there, the way it was pulling I would think there was 15-20 mph left

    reading between the lines

If I am guessing right you started watching the road more than the guages as you approached 100 mph (160 KPH) You were in 4th and you noticed before you shifted you had exceeded or were about to exceed 100 mph. You really do not know how fast you were going when you shifted from forth to fifth. Things were happening so fast you did not have the time to look at the gauges. I assume that you were on a public road and there was the possibility of traffic, even if there was none when you were trying it out? You shifted to 5th and accelerated with your eyes on the stretch of road ahead and then when you had been frightened sufficiently for a first high speed run you throttled down and took a peak at the speedometer as the bike dropped its front end and you were confident you were not going to hit anyone or thing. You were at or near 120 mph (@190 KPH). Sound about right?
