I have read somewhat of the delema regarding replacement fuel filler caps for the 1986 VFR. Wow, what a great thing the internet is - found one straight away on the internet - Chinese of course but who cares if it fits (as they claimed) First one arrived - clearly the wrong screw pattern (made for 1990 onwards) and they politely agreed to replace with the correct one, meanwhile I could "keep the incorrect supply" Second one arrived - same as first, and as before, I could keep this cap, and sorry we don't have a cap for your machine. So, two caps in hand, both worthless unless I buy a later bike! Is there such a thing as a good secondhand cap of the correct pattern? My '89 model had a chrome cap, satin and bright combo, but it has small blisters under the chrome and these days chrome platers are thin on the ground here in Aussie, and none seem interested in trying to save my old cap. I do not want some "race" style or non-pattern cap if I can help it
If you do not want some "race style" then you are likely outa luck. Used or by some miracle you find an NOS example. Even the "race style" are not technical made for that model, but are modifiable to work. And there is a Kawasaki version of the race style that has the correct bolt pattern but needs even more mods to work.
Hi Capt. That's what I was afraid you were going to say I might try Japan, my son seems to find all sorts of unobtainable parts there - I need to get him on the job Thanks anyway
