I have a 2003 VFR 800 Vtec and having issues with the idle speed when warm Idle goes up to 2500 as normal on warmup, but as the temp gauge rises the idle does not drop back to around 1200rpm as it should. The bike can reach 90 degrees on the dash and it continues to idle around 2500-2000. It can also jump between 1500 to 2500 rpm when im stopped at lights or a crossing Any suggestions
Hi Parky16 - welcome to the MadHouse:welcome: When you get a chance please visit the introductions forum to say Hi to the rest of the folks on here and include a photo or two of your VFR or you may get folks raggin on you. You may also want to update your forum profile (Forum Actions + Edit Profile) to include the specs of your bike and an approximate location (city/town) so the information will appear alongside all your posts and if you need help you may find someone nearby is willing to swing by and advise - especially if you have a well stocked beer fridge. :focus: As for the erratic idle the sudden jumping when idling suggests its electrical. I assume you have checked the coolant levels are correct as the ECU responds to temperature sensor inputs from the radiator, and if the level is low it might result in the ECU getting intermittent coolant readings if the level drops below the sensor which may fool the ECU to think the coolant is still cold and needs to increase the revs. Whilst I admire the desire to keep posts brief, in this case it might be helpful to have a bit more information on the history of this bike. Have you recently acquired the bike? When did this problem first appear and when was it last serviced? If you know the bike was running perfectly until recently have you had any work done on the bike? If so, it may be worth checking in case any of the sensor cabling has been disturbed. This diagram will hopefully allow you to locate the relevant connections. http://www.lifford-cooke.com/motorbiking/documents/VFR VTEC PGM-FI Diagram 2002.pdf Let us know how you get on. SkiMad
Does the '03 use the wax pellet idle speed control valve or is that in an earlier model--if it does use the wax that would be a good place to look.
