Hi All.. I have a quick question.. I recently went from VFR 750 (loved it) to a VFR 800 Fi-1. The bike is in great condition, as are the exhaust downpipes; however I am wondering if the (original) downpipes on this model are stainless or not? I thought I saw a reference somewhere that the later Fi models had stainless downpipes? It is the only thing that would concern me, as I had a problem with the pipes on the 750. I had a look at them and have to say that they do not look like they are stainless..but I am no expert.. Anyone any idea? Thanks, Rory
I don't believe they were ss, but its possible someone could have swapped them out. Try a magnet - they usually won't stick to stainless.
yeah.. will try the magnet test.. I saw a posting here.. http://www.adventurebikerider.com/forum/23-bikes/297722-vfr800fi-pre-vtec.html which said (quoting) "The FiY model is the best one to have as it has stainless steel exhausts and any bike of that age with mild steel is going to need them replaced soon, and they do get a battering on this bike from water salt and dirt off the front wheel and along the underbelly." ..which got me thinking that is might be SS.. anyway.. will try the magnet test..
