vfr1000 tank on a vf700f?????? can it be done?

Just got a 1985 vf700f and have started to get it into running shape... Biggest problem I have found is a bum gas tank. It has a basketball size rusted dent in the side. SO....... Are the tanks on these bikes year specific or can I fit a 750 or 1000 tank from the same era? I will post picks soon.

 

750 tank will be a straight swap, outside of the paint color/scheme.

The 1000F tank *may* bolt right up, but it is shaped differently at the front, and the mounts for the 700 side panels won't line up.

However, if you do fit the 1000F tank, you can add a set of 1000F side panels, as the lower and rear mount tabs WILL line up.
