Hi, I have recently purchased a VFR1200F from 2010. I am struggling with one problem. When I brake hard after servicing the brakes the front wheel hops even with bike turned off and hard pushed it will front wheel hop. Does anyone know what the problem might be? So far I have tried. - Cleaning calipers and pistons. - Cleaning brake discs with brake cleaner - Putting tyre pressure correctly - Removing excessive brake fluid from the master cylinder.
If you have a brake shudder then it is possible that a disc carrier has been bent so the disc no longer runs true. I managed to do this on my 800 somehow, the bike went from smooth braking to shuddering badly as a result. You should check the rotors are running true, elevate the wheel, remove the callipers and rotate the wheel ideally using a dial indicator to check for run-out. You can get a reasonable idea of runout just by holding a screwdriver firmly close to the disc, but a dial indicator will give precise measurements. If the disc is not true you can straighten them very carefully be prying on the alloy carrier.
If that's the problem you're better off just replacing the rotors. No use in trying to repair it. You might end up cracking it. Cheaper to just get another set or better yet get some Wave rotors Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
Thanks both for the reply. I have a scraping noise from the left caliper after replacing brake pads. I have pushed the calipers back when the caliper was removed.
