VFR400 confusion - need wisdom pls guys

    my eldest son has an NC24 VFR400R - we have the carbs off and have cleaned out a sh!tload of muck from the needle&seat area, and generally sorted out things. The engine has a sensor of some sort on the rear of the front bank of cylinders - 2 wires come out but have been cut off short. It could be a cam position sensor, an oil pressure sensor... something of that ilk. Problem is the manual I have is a PDF copy of a photocopy of a clymer manual (I think) and I can find no clue in it at all.

    Any ideas?

    on some early VFRs those would be wires from a pulse generator going to the CDI
