i just got my 86 vfr700 (the guy said it was a 750 but the fram tag says 700) anyways it has 2 problems it will not start after a charge up. it will only start with a jump starter. once you get it started you can take the charger off and it will stay running. but if you take the + cable it dies. also if you put the charger on the + calbe to start it without the battery it will just buzz. the rectifier gets realy hot. is their some kinda problem with it?

also it has no uper fairing. does anyone make a cheap replacment and how moch is it?

    thank for the newbie help

Sounds like you have stator and/or regulator/rectifier issues. Get a factory service manual and begin testing the charging system with a good digital voltmeter.

There is a step by step procedure in the manual for doing this.

You could also try Electrex USA's fault diagnosis chart found here:

Chuck Crites sells '86-'87 VFR700/750 bodywork. Looks like good stuff too. He sells on eBay under the name "VFRChuck" or you can email him for a price list: vfrchuck@bright.net
