It seems like they are mostly the same except for the grab handle notch. I was wondering if a 700 seat will fit my 88/89 750 ?

    I can't say for sure if a 86 87 seat fits a 88 89 subframe.

    I suspect it does.

Perhaps there is somebody close enough to you for a test. I can also grab a pic and some measurements if you want.

I hate assumptions, but I could only imagine they would make one subframe for both 700 and 750. Measurements would be greatly appreciated. I believe we all have the same subs, tail bodywork, and seats but there could be a twist in this story.

For measurements, I would think as long as the front center tank "hook" to the 2 x rail "J" hooks to the locking pin hopefully are the same between all the bikes.
    Here is my seat.

While I do think the seats are interchangeable, the subs are very different. You continually underestimate the amount of changes that were made from 87 to 88.

Very similar to the amount of changes from 93 to 94.

I will get some pics and measurements this weekend, unless somebody from across the pond chimes in first.

86 - 87 seat will fit, but it won't have the recess for a grab handle.

There were significant changes for the 88/89 VFR750 compared to the 86/87.

These included exhaust configuration, forks, brakes and rear hangers to mention a few.

Thanks for the measurements Capt. I don't have any passengers so I won't be needing that grab handle. :)

Agreed on the changes. I just figure if the seat fits from the 87 on the 88 without the notches for the grab handle then I would like that look more. One of my goals on this VFR is to keep it or the parts I do pull off completely original. IE, if I sell to a VFR nut, they would appreciate that I have all the original pieces and it wouldn't take anything to put it back to original.
I did the same with my Hawk. Even though I completely changed the tail, seat, under pan and fuel tank in various ways, I still have the originals and I did not damage or remove any original mounts..etc.

Thats my philosophy on mods too, as much as I can. I'll buy extra stock parts to mod so the originals can go in a box.

Seat ordered. $85 shipped so I can custom re-cover. VFR700 seat, fingers crossed it is all good and fits well.
