I have a 2002 with 96,000 miles on her. Half of those miles put on by me in the 5 years I've had her.
On my 110 mile round trip to work 5 days a week, when I'm not lane-splitting I cruise between
5500-6000 rpm. I VERY RARELY twist it up enough to engage the VTECH in the bike. Maybe 5 or 6 times a month.
Egos aside, does this lack of 'opening her up' have any detrimental effects on the engine/VTECH system? I love the kick in the pants it gives me but I don't feel the need to rev 'er up like that. Even though I know they like to be wound-up. I've got my Aprilia for that .

Every bike needs an "Italian Tune-Up" from time to time....

Realistically I don't think that there is any need to give an engine unnecessary revs. As long as it is getting fully warmed up (to drive out condensation in the oil) and you replace the fluids on the scheduled basis then the engine should be happy no matter how seldom it goes to high revs. Well that's my opinion anyway, it will be interesting to hear what others say.
