Out of curiosity, what sort of warranty do you guys in the US get when you buy a new bike? I know this varies from country to country, and i've seen examples where you actually pay for warranty, but i'm talking about handing over your money and the dealer saying, "here's the keys and you get 2yrs warranty with the bike".

As an example, i bought my VFR new in April this year, paid cash and got a 5yr warranty AS STANDARD.

Must be nice!! We get one year unlimited mileage if I remember correctly. I got a 2 year extended warranty through my dealer (not Honda) since it includes all scheduled maintenance for all three years.

Mine is unlimited mileage for the whole 5yrs, interesting thing is, its the same bike sold all over the world, so if i get a 5yr warranty, why doesn't everyone else? BTW, mine doesn't include servicing costs, but then i wouldn't expect that from any manufacturer

Damn John, most auto warranties here in the US are only 3 years/36,000 miles and you are getting 5 years unlimited miles ON A BIKE?!!! My toyota truck is not that long (though the powertrain is 60,000 miles) Wow, that is a DEAL! I wonder if they inflate the price more over there to compensate for the long warranty?

Most jap bikes as I have seen in the US are only one year with unlimited miles. Anything else is extra with a few exceptions. For example, the Honda website shows a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty for the VFR, and the Goldwing has a 3 year warranty with unlimited miles.

    Guys
There may be other factors involved, such as base price of the bike. It will cost the manufacturer more to sell in a country that requires a 5 year warranty versus 1 year, therefore it's logical to assume the base price will vary accordingly. Also, I tend not to get extended warranties especially if they cover just mechanical defects. Such defects will likely occur in the first year anyways, the risk then decreases thereafter. Just my 2 cents!

All the VFR's up here are 1 year to begin with. Mine is 2 yrs due to a end of the year Honda promotion, nothing extra paid. 5 yrs sounds sweet as does 3. Very strange there is such a difference.

Unit prices in europe have always been more expensive for bikes and cars but this doesn't explain the warranty issue. In the UK you get a 2 year warranty with an option for a 3rd, least i did when i bought my '02 VFR. I was as surprised as anyone at getting a 5 year warranty for the same price in Sweden as it is in the UK. I'm ecstatic, don't get me wrong and it covers all mechanical parts during that period with unlimited mileage. I don't understand Hondas attitude on this, especially as i bought mine at a main dealer so why doesn't everyone else get it?

LMAO, maybe so but i doubt it somehow, i mean the warranties vary in europe as well so there is no logic to it all, surely we should all get the same deal?

It doesn't really make sense to me John. I don't understand why the factory would vary their warranty as such either. I have never heard of a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty on a bike, much less hardly a car around here would have that. You are just one lucky SOB I think...maybe the salesman liked your smile? hahaha..

Well i wish i was the only one who got the 5 year deal but all Hondas, least the bigger cc bikes have this in Sweden, Blades, Wings, CBR's and so on, i'll take a picture of the badge Honda put on my bike, with the 5 year guarantee symbol on it.
