So I have noticed that my 5th gen (2000) speedo is about 8mph fast on the highway and it kind of bugs me....plus it is adding false mileage. I was thinking about getting a speedo healer and was wondering which brand you guys have used or would recommend? Also, what is involved with installing it on this bike exactly?

I installed the Heal Tech Speedo Healer 2 years ago on my 6th, gen. It was a Christmas gift so I don't remember the actual cost. I bought the Speedohealer v4 unit (Part# SH-V4) and I had to get the Harness Kit for My 6th Gen. (part # SH-H03). You can check it all out at www.speedohealer.com. I will bet that the exact same setup works for the 5th. gen.

My bike was like yours, 7 or 8 mph too fast. What I did find out was the speedometer was reading fast and the odometer was right on before I installed the Speedo Healer. Healtech gave me the numbers to program into the unit based on their chart and their advice was perfect. I think I programmed a 5.2% reduction into the unit and now my speed is in perfect sync with my Garman Zumo GPS. Now the bad but not so bad news. My odometer now seems to be reading a little slow compared to the GPS. (Maybe my miles ar just 5.2% longer. LOL) I think on VFRD someone had a thread about using certain wires and bypassing the Speedo Healer that would send the odometer signal past the Speedo Healer to the Speedometer. This bypass would run the speed signal through the Healer but not the odometer signal. (Mileage). This way you could get them both right. I thought this was too complicated so I just set it up as instructed.

Very simple setup just unplug a connector and plug the Healer in, then program the percentage change.

Hey Stosh, I think that Speedo Healer would be very useful when passing the Wisconsin Highway Patrol on a RC51. And don't get me started on how they love us FIB's.

    Lol!

Holy Smokes,a speedo healer is very nearly required equipment on an RC51 Maggot.

I mean that is if you're planning on keeping your drivers license for any great length of time.

Just checked the website for you. $116.99 for unit. $30.00 for the bike specific harness.
