I have just begun to ride. What a complete and total thrill. I am all about wearing ATGATT and was wondering what to do with my helmet when I reach a destination like the local diner, Honda dealership, or any place else I plan to frequent on my white '06.

I spent big bucks on my Arai Quantum II lid. I feel way uneasy about just leaving my helmet on the bike. Carying the helmet with me seems like a real PITA too. What do you folks do?

    Thanks,

    Gunzer

My helmet goes where I go or it gets locked in my side case.

I sometimes lock it on the bike using the underseat hook, but most of the time I just carry it with me - it is not too big of a pain.

They make aftermarket locks or backpacks specifically designed to carry a helmet if you want to go that route.

I also take mine with me 90% of the time. If I do leave it with the bike, I have a smaller cable lock that I run through the chin bar and lock it to the bike.

I leave it on the bike lock if the bike is where I can see it.
For eating out, going to work, etc... I take the helmet with me.

Carry mine with me always. The pain subsides after a short while. You will get used to it. I am just not comfortable leaving it with the bike, even if it is secured to the bike somehow. I can see someone doing damage trying to get the helmet off. Putting it is a secure hard bag may be an acceptable option to me but I don't have those.

Perfect! I've got spares AND we're doing some landscaping. Thanks for the idea. You're a regular HGTV!

That "Through the chin bar" part is what's important. A sharp knife and 5 seconds and all you are left with is a D-ring and a bit of strap otherwise.

I almost always take my helmet with me. Every once in awhile it will stay with the bike, if it's where I can see it. But usually it will only stay with the bike when I have saddle bags on the bike.

I leave mine locked on the bike. Much less chance of dropping or damaging the helmet that way.
I live in a state without a helmet law. They don't get messed with much.

    Gatekeeper,

How do you lock yours on the bike? Can you post a picture?

If you have an expensive one, then better take it with you.

My buddy left his Arai secured to the bike with a cable.
when he came back, the visor was gone and the side pods.
    That visor is about $100.

Those bastards don't have to take the whole thing.

I usually just put mine over the right grip and brake lever once it is parked. I think I used the hook-underseat lock maybe twice. I've never had a problem with just leaving the helmet on my bike when I go places. If it's hot outside, I'll hang my jacket over my seat and leave it. I guess my riding friends and I have never really thought that they would be taken. None of us had ever had a problem with this over the years.

I guess if I parked my bike in a remote place away from public view, I would probably take my helmet and jacket with me though.

DerStuka: Why did you put those regular plants in there? Did you already harvest that "special" stuff?

But, to answer the question, I generally take mine with me to avoid any of the problems listed above. And no one spoke of the really nasty one...someone dumping a drink or other unpleasant substance into your helmet as it rests on your bike. It happens every so often.

Plus, I look so cool carrying my helmet! Chicks dig it, baby!

I always take mine with me. 100%of the time. Unless you have hard locking bags. My helmet is too important to me to leave it out were people can mess with it. Lots of people suk in this world and all it would take to ruin your day would be 30 Seconds from some delinquent.

A sharp knife.. Or a stray spit or some soda... your helmet and day are runined.

My wife and I carry our helmets into resturants and place them under the table or in the seat next to us. You will get used to it.

I bought a tourmaster backpack from Cortech. I keep all my personal items inside the backpack and just unzip the special helmet sling to carry the helmet at the same time.
