Don't know which gen to get I can get a gen 5 with 23000kms for 5000 or a gen 6 with 58000kms for 5000 both bikes have all maintenance up to date and both stock. Which is the better one? And why?

get whichever one you liked the best. one isn't better than the other - just personal preference.

    or a 5.5

I think he is trying to be humorous.

Everyone has their favorite gen. I have a 5th gen, but I also like the 6th gen and I seriously lust over the 1993 in pearl white. Someday it will be mine.

i previously had a 91 and sold it this fall as was hard to get parts and accessories so maybe i am looking at the 03 for the availability of accessories for it still....but is 58000 too much mileage wise or just broken in :)?

The best one ever made was the 5th Gen, and specifically the '98. This is the gospel truth.

OK, you want to compare the features on the two bikes. Does the 6th Gen have ABS? Is the 5th Gen injected? Saddlebags included? Does either have suspension upgrades? Power Commander? Is one better maintained by the look of it?

Personally, I think the decision boils down to these kinds of questions.

If the choice were mine - and this is subjective, so what I think doesn't mattter that much - I would get the ABS model. However, I bet the 6th Gen hasn't had its first major service. That service is relatively expensive because of the procedure for checking the valve clearances, so take a look at that.

    But ABS is cool.
