Your 2010 VFR with 4400 miles for a brand new Yamaha 2013 FZ 1. Straight across and no money out of pocket?

    I know it's a crazy thought...

    Thank you 20140827_114736.jpg 20140827_114748.jpg Yamaha FZ 1 2013 .jpg

    No way!
    You would be really disappointed.
FZ1 is "long in the tooth".

Never trade in if you can help it. They are only whiling to do it cause they will be 1 or 2k up on the deal.

Now that said, if you walk out of the deal with no more payments and a bike to boot, that is something to think about money-wise.

Not a chance in hell on that deal. It is going to take one heck of a bike, or a change in my riding interests to get my 1200F away from me. Even then I would probably trade my VTX1800F on something else first.

I agree that the only reason they want to offer you this deal is because they see the opportunity to make money on the deal. But the dealer is in the business of making money ... Never do you see "not for profit" on their sign.

With that being said, I would weigh the pros & cons of each bike against the things you like or dislike about each one. If the FZ1 better fits your needs/wants than the VFR, then I say go for it. If not, then stick with the VFR knowing that you made an educated decision.

One should not trade a perfectly good V4 for a boring inline 4. i agree. Bad trade.

^^What gade-thrasher said. If you like the bike & like the deal then do it. Theres plenty of printed & online reviews & comparisons of the FZ1 to make an educated decision. With only 4400 miles on 2010 it seems to me you don't ride that much. Did you buy the VFR as a leftover?

Not a leftover... I just got it from someone 2 months ago with 2274 Miles.
And I re-flashed it and removed power restrictions... so after hearing all of you guys (and Thank you btw) I'm leaning more towards keeping it.
I have the feeling that my VFR will run forever.

Which one do you ride more often VFR or VTX? I'm thinking about adding a cruiser but I really can't see the huge benefit to do so except more comfort (for the passenger) riding 2 up?

    Thank you

I personally wouldn't trade the big VFR for the Yamaha but I've ridden both and prefer the character of the VFR. If that's not your thing, then trade if it'll make you happy.

You can always sell it and take cash and negotiate a better deal.

I think you just hijacked your own thread:biggrin-new:

I ride the VFR a lot more, I kept the cruiser because it is comfortable for 2 up riding and it really doesn't cost much to own. That said, if the wife doesn't ride with me any more than she has lately...It might get sold in favor of something else. Like a track bike:vtr2:

I have owned both at the same time and both are good rides. The fz1 is faster and better handling but the vfr12 is better for 2up which is the majority of my rides. As suggested, decide what it is you really want from your ride and go from there. If an fz1 is what you want, A straight up trade would not be a bad deal considering how hard it is to sell a VFR1200.

    Oh I see.
I do some two up riding and we are about 360 lbs combined weight.
Which maybe harder for the Fazer to handle. But I didn't realize that it handles much better than a VFR.
And btw... Do you know why are they so hard to sell. Overall
    they are great bikes?!

    Thank you

The fz1 has plenty of power to handle 2up but the smaller overall bike size, smaller pillion seat and seating position, lack of factory bags for her stuff, etc.

I am guessing the hard vfr12 sell is due to the very small niche that it fills...not really a tourer due to fuel tank capacity and not really a sport bike. Therefore some initial bad press and additionally the substantially discounted prices have made them a sales fail. Do note that they are not a bike fail! I love mine.
