Was riding doing a cool 30 mph coming to a stop light in city area and the bike dies, no warnings. Roll her it into a gas station luckily directly to my left. Hit the kill switch, took out the key. Put the key back in, hit the red on switch and noticed NO red F1 light and no sound from the pump I usually hear :sorrow:, pushed the button to start it, cranks but not bang. Seems like a fuel / fuel pump failure or a fuse. Gonna check the fuses today after work. She has about 37,000+ miles on her. I guess something was bound to happen eventually. I ride her everyday, weather permitting of course. Has anyone out there suffered this same tragedy LOL!! If fuses check out she will be shipped to the mechanic, looking for a bit of knowledge before I have to face the dreaded mech shop. Thanks for any input.

Have you check the sidestand kill switch?
Are you sure there is no noise from the pump when you turn on the ignition?
That is odd for the motor to quit. :jaw:

How did the motor sound when it stopped? Did it sputter or stop like you turned off the key? Was it in gear when it died and if so was the clutch in or out?

I think the clutch was in because I was coasting to a stop. Noticed the bike was really quiet and realized it died it stopped running like I just turned off the key. There is no pump noise at all and no F1 light. I will check the stand switch and pull the left fairing to check this Blue connector I've been reading about. Also tap the Fuel Pump with something. (where is the fuel pump by the way?)

The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank so no tapping it easily

Interesting issue there - you're starting in the right place though with the fuses. Double check all your wiring harness connections as well.

So the bike turns over and the dash / headlights are on??

    Yeah, I know that feeling.

Check for spark before you go much further - if you have spark, then check all connections / fuses from the fuel pump back to the battery. It's rare for a fuel pump to go like that with so few miles, but it's totally plausible that you may have a bad one.

Also, as others have mentioned, check all your switches (kill, kickstand, etc.)

If the fuel pump is not priming, you should immediately be checking why its not priming. Is the fuel pump getting power? Is the fuel pump relay getting power and signal?

Common reasons why the pump doesn't prime:

Failed main fuse holder. Check it, it is probably burnt and discolored.
Big Blue Connector grounds have burnt out. Check it, pull it apart and inspect all the inner terminals. The ground terminals are probably burnt.
Big orange ground block. Pull it apart, inspect and clean it.
Low voltage. This is kind of a hurr durr, but yes, make sure that your charging system is good and your battery is charged/charging. Terminals tight?
Then you run into all the other little and less common things. Failed ignition key switch, starter button, kill switch etc.
It is always a good idea to pull every possible connection/fuse apart that you can find, clean and inspect them and put them back together.

Google "VFR800 Main fuse failue" and "vfr800 big blue connector" these are very common and will turn up a lot of hits.

Well fellow VFR conglomerates... Yesterday I was finally able to take look at "Sheila" (my VFR). Took off the seat and noticed (2) blown fuses, never been soooo happy to see a couple of 20amp fuses blown. Replaced both fuses and she fired right up. Took her for a welcome back run & all is well. Thanks for all the feed back much appreciated.

Which fuses were those exactly? I forget... The main fuse is the 30amp right? The other two are o2 sensor, fi or starter etc??

The previous owner put in these ultra bright head lights (high beams). So I'm assuming since this was my first night ride and my first time using more than just the running lights it put too much strain on the electrical system and blew the fuses. These high beams may have to be removed... not sure yet. I'll give it another go with extra fuses on board.

Oh jeeze. When ever people start doing weird lighting mods, whether less or more wattage, bad stuff always happens. But again what exactly were those two fuses to?
