Kudos to you girl.....you def have some cajones.......

    - Make sure your charging system is in absolute top shape....
I might go ahead and replace the stator with new anyhoo - there has been some early fallout in the 2006s and 2007s...

Yes, that will definitely be sorted to the best it can be. I intend to not have the issues experienced last time.

Ok ;) Game on. I hear there are a few bears and moose, neither are worthy a bump. then there's the bugs large enough to carry you off. Now down to Baja I hear the wild range cattle can be troublesome, not to mention a few locals which has it carry more fuel than what you think you'll need. I bet Mr. Long has some pointers here.

Better check the weather that time of year. Might not be warmed up/de-snowed yet. You might as well just go on up to the North Pole....; )

(I think she likes to ride a VFR)

Best to leave the K&N filters at home then, and pack some bear/Badbilly repellent!

I was up there this year from the 1st of June though the middle of July...the weather was fine in Anchorage and Fairbanks. I would plan on getting wet though. Not many bugs in the city areas, but more than you can believe when you are in the bush....I wouldn't be camping. The road from Anchorage to Fairbanks is nice, but the quality drops off drastically about 15 miles north of Fairbanks heading up to the Arctic Circle. Baja is more about not getting all your shit stolen, but that is easy to plan for.

Oh, and another thing that takes a little getting used to.....20+ hours of daylight in AK that time of year.

Brave audacious girl you. Have fun. Sounds like a blast and a half if you can get away and do it.

Ricks stator and rectifier if you go to that extreme, not saying you need to.
Listen to NCB he knows thing or two.
Camping that time of year is like giving blood. They call it mosquito season for a reason. Might want to be prepared for some hotel stays. Don't hurt none.

My dad just drove to AK from Montana this past summer. He said no way in hell did he recommend it on a VFR. He said the road was hell. GS or some other ADV bike, yes but it would tear up a bike like ours. P.S., he drives a new Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4x4.

My first thought here might be the possibility of needing a tire change somewhere along the trip. If that's the case, having a new set strategically placed somewhere along the route. Not sure exactly how many miles you have planned on this trip AM, but it might bensomething worth considering.

Yes, I have a plan to stop for tire and oil change and any other maintenance. Just need to make contacts when the time gets closer to pin down details.

I want to change a PR3/4 combo to a more knobby or rugged tire while in BC before heading north into Yukon...tires that will help me out while on those roads...Suggestions?

If I swapped them just over the border in Canada, I would put around 4,500 miles on them getting to Anchorage and back.

Then returning to the same place to swap tires back to the PR3/4 that will carry me the rest of the way... which would definitely be good for the 7k-8k total miles I'd ride on them.

The route is 11,000 miles so far. Not counting sightseeing or other unplanned mileage.

Scubalong is your friend here. He has done this trip. I would love to ride some of it with you but will be heading east from Atascadero and stop to see family and friends on my way to Winnipeg after R3 so won't be in BC when you go through there.

I've never tried a set of these AM, so no experience BUT, at the risk of starting a tire thread.......

    http://www.twistedthrottle.ca/avon-...80-55zr17-90-street-10-dirt-73w-tubeless-tire

I have talked with a few people who have ridden with Avon tires in general and most reports were that Avon makes a good tire. The ad shows tire is geared more toward street than dirt, but the larger tread lugs might give it more traction in inclement conditions. LOL Wouldn't recommend much in the way of "soft roading" on the VFR though.

Anyone here have any experience with said tire, or anything along these lines?? Perhaps not a change in tire, but a change in machine might be in order. :) lol

Perhaps the BMW F800 was it that you were thinking of AM. Can't remember exactly which you rode a little while ago.
