best to suck dry he overflow bottle. don't assume that you're fully filled until you recheck (cold) under rad cap after the first ride.
remove airbox top and filter so you can see whether the vacuum slides move in response to throttle with engine running. all should be the same.

front cover is EZ........after you remove the radiator.
you're probably seeing the cross-drilled holes that drain the sparkplug wells.
