I don't know are my battery bad or not, but after month staying in garage motorcycle starts perfect but sometimes when riding long distance and stop somewhere and when I want to start engine it doesnt starts and odometer and clock resets.
I will change to new battery, and if this foult will continue what i will have to do? Change my RR? My orginal RR is SH579C-12. Some in forums I have found that need to change to SH689DA. That OEM RR are foulty... Someone knows about it some more?

Doubt it is a battery or RR problem. Sounds like bad connection.

    You say, "doesn't start"

you mean, "doesn't crank"?? Like dead battery?

Lets be clear the SH579C-12 is the correct R/R for your '01, the SH689DA is for a '98/'99 and is not the same.

batteries are usually good or they are bad. They don't work sometimes and not others.

RR's in my experience are either good or bad. They don't work sometimes and not others.

If your battery has a charge sometimes and not others, I suspect there is a connection problem with your wiring. Check stator plug/connector, RR plug/connector, Starter relay plug/connector, ground wires, and battery terminal connections.

When I had intermittent problems with charging, I used one of these cheap gauges:

I have a battery tender plug for charging the battery. Connect the meter to the plug and stuff the meter in the clear pouch on the tank bag. While riding, I could see the lights to know if it was charging or not. Found that it quit charging when the bike got real hot. Checked all plugs/connectors and found one was burned/melted.

get a meter like what I linked above. Ride around. If it drops down to 12v, you know you have a charging problem. If it always shows 14v while riding and then won't crank, change battery.

actually, Tink, when SLOav8r's R/r went kaput while riding with me, it was okay when cold, then started wearing out as the day went on. Now, granted this didn't go on for a long period. We are talking about in one day. It started, we rode for a while. We noticed his lights get dimmer. We stopped for a while, it started back ok. After a bit, his lights started getting dimmer. We figured R/R and started heading home. He'd be able to ride for a while, then it would quit. Finally, when it cooler as the sun went down, we were able to get it started again. I think we jumped it from my bike. (It's been a while so I'm not sure) Anyway, his lights were dim so he just followed me the last 60 miles or so using my high beams for both of us. I'm not saying the OP is having R/R prob for sure, but that's definitely the first thing that pops into my head.

That is a problem I hope to never have again thanks to: http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanic...yamaha-r1-regulator-work-5th-gen-vfr-how.html

HA! Too funny. When I first typed my post, I stated it more as an absolute. Like my comment on the battery, "it is or it isn't..."

I saw crow in my future and changed the wording to "in my experience.." before posting

Thanks for that Reg, yum :hungry:

Sounds like its losing it ground to me. What appears to be a good connection is not always the case. Best you take apart, visually inspect, sometimes repositioning connections will do the trick. Might check to see if a guage wire touching motor and heating up. Or wiring rubbing together, visually inspect all wires. good luck man.

I changed R/R with new one. Now charging with or without lights are 14,5V.
But I notice that three yellow wires from alternator to R/R are very hot.
It was hot with old RR and with new RR they are hot.
And RR are very hot can't touch with fingers...
    Is that supose to be?
How YOURS VFR alternator wires hot? How RR temperature?

they run hot. That's why some people add a fan. Making sure all your connections are good will help keep heat in the wires to a minimum.
